Overview
GPU infrastructure is the complete stack required to make accelerator compute usable at scale, not just the GPUs themselves but the server systems that house them, the high-speed network that links them, the storage that feeds them, and the power and cooling that keep them running. Each piece is necessary, and a GPU in isolation accomplishes very little of what it promises on paper.
How it works
HGX server systems wired together by an InfiniBand XDR fabric , backed by parallel file systems built for high-throughput data access, and supported by power delivery and cooling sized for the considerable thermal density of GPU racks. The components are chosen and tuned to operate as a balanced whole rather than assembled piecemeal.
Why it matters
Performance is governed by the weakest link in the stack. A GPU that cannot be fully powered, adequately cooled, or supplied with data quickly enough will fall short of its rated specification, and the expensive silicon ends up waiting on whichever component lagged behind. Engineering the whole stack to balance, so no single element starves the rest, is exactly what separates real GPU infrastructure from ordinary servers with accelerators bolted on.
