Overview
A conventional data center is built for CPU servers that draw modest power and tolerate ordinary cooling. An AI data center is a different class of facility. A single rack of GPUs can demand many times the power of conventional servers and generate heat at a density ordinary facilities are not built to handle, while the network between nodes must carry far more traffic at far lower latency.
How it works
These facilities are designed from the power feed inward. High-density busways deliver electricity to each rack, liquid or hybrid cooling carries heat away at the rate GPUs produce it, and a dedicated low-latency fabric links GPU nodes so they can train as one distributed machine. Every layer is sized for sustained, simultaneous load rather than occasional peaks.
Why it matters
Placing GPUs in a building never designed for them invites thermal throttling, unstable power, and network bottlenecks that quietly cap performance well below the hardware's rating. Purpose-built AI facilities remove those ceilings, letting expensive accelerators run at full capability around the clock instead of idling against infrastructure limits.
