Overview
Hyperscalers are the giants of cloud computing, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure chief among them. They run hundreds of data centers across the globe and have poured hundreds of billions of dollars into infrastructure. Their scale is the source of both their strengths, enormous breadth of services and reach, and the particular trade-offs that come with depending on them.
How it works
They offer GPU compute much like any other service: a customer provisions an instance with attached accelerators and pays by the hour. The subtler point lies in geography and jurisdiction. By default, hyperscalers route data through US-controlled infrastructure governed by US law, which creates real data-sovereignty complications for organizations based outside the United States and its legal orbit.
